SPIŠ, A TREASURY OF SLOVAKIA
A part of Slovakia with its own dialect, folk-dress and verbal communication is rich on natural beauties and attractive cultural monuments. Some of them are a part of the world heritage acknowledged by the UNESCO - such as Spišský hrad (Spiš Castle), Spišská Kapitula, Spišské Podhradie, Žehra and Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa (Dobšinská Ice Cave). LEVOČA
The oldest archeological discoveries in this area came from the "New" Stone Age (Neolithic). One of the biggest squares in the world with many historical houses was founded around 1500. The highest gothic altar in the world (18,62 m) and a museum of sacral art of the Middle Ages is situated in monumental St. Jacob church. SLOVAK PARADISE
It is an area of extraordinary natural beauty, and of rare flora and fauna. Its elevation is not particulary high (500 - 1,700 m) but negotiating the ravines along the walking trails is a very popular tourist activity. HIGH TATRAS MOUNTAINS
High Tatras mountains was declared to be the first Slovak National Park and in 1993 also was akcnowledged by UNESCO as the "Biospheric reservation of the Tatras". There are mountain lakes, deep valleys of glacier origin, moraines and beautiful nature with rare flora and fauna as well.
